Mino Ode Kwe Beadwork

For many years I have loved to work with a needle and thread.  Usually I work with fabric and make hand appliqued quilts.  It is relaxing to do and helps pass the time while waiting for appointments, travelling (remember when we used to travel?) and when watching hockey /television in the evening with my family.

One gift of this pandemic time has been reconnections with my father and this reconnection has allowed me to learn and delve into our rich Anishinaabe culture.  Though we have not been able to visit much in person due to pandemic restrictions, he has been teaching me and my children about our heritage.

I am not surprised that I was drawn to traditional beading.  The colours and floral patterns inspire me and remind me so much of my appliqué work.
